Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memories are of discovering an instrument hidden in her attic and getting enthralled by the sounds it created. Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes encouraged her to learn music. It was not for a job or as a hobby, but rather for the sake of growing. To do this she wrote her first original compositions. Her influence comes from famous writer Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in addition to her love of Bjork's style. The singer decided to perform her songs publicly when her mother said it could aid people in not to gain fame with the work she does, but to help the people around them understand the importance of their work and how they can affect the world. As a young girl she began to learn the piano. At age nine, she began writing her own songs. It took until her 14th birthday that she revealed her plans to her parents. The dream was never to turn into Aurora. Aurora says that she likes music and writing. She says that music is her favorite way of feeling something.
